Pelvic Health

The pelvic floor is a group of muscles in the bottom of the pelvis that support your pelvic organs, maintain bowel and bladder control, and enable sexual functioning. Conditions involving the pelvic floor affect many people, women as well as men, during their lifetime, with a variety of causes and symptoms.

The three main types of pelvic floor disorders are:

  • Urinary incontinence, or lack of bladder control
  • Fecal incontinence, or lack of bowel control
  • Pelvic organ prolapse, or the dropping of pelvic organs cause by loss of support in pelvic floor tissues

In addition to problems of incontinence, symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction can include painful intercourse, pelvic pressure or heaviness, pelvic/low back pain on movement, abdominal separation (diastasis recti), erectile/ejaculatory difficulties or Peyronie’s disease (in men) and difficulty performing normal activities.

Orlando Health offers outpatient rehabilitation that targets various forms of pelvic dysfunction by offering personalized treatment, which may include relaxation techniques to improve muscle tone and health, manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, functional training, behavior modification and modalities such as biofeedback.
