Back-to-school fun meets hands-on learning at Orlando Health Melbourne Hospital
Melbourne, FL (August 6, 2026) — From fire trucks to friendly health tips, Orlando Health Melbourne Hospital turned back-to-school prep into a celebration at the Back-to-School Block Party on Aug. 1, welcoming team members and their families to campus for an interactive day of education, connection and celebration ahead of the new school year.
The event featured hands-on booths led by hospital departments, offering practical tips and activities focused on topics such as nutrition, hydration, hand hygiene, basic first aid and online safety. Community partners also joined in the fun, with the Brevard County Sherriff’s Department sharing bike safety guidance and the Melbourne Fire Department bringing a fire truck for children to explore and learn how they keep the community safe.
"At Orlando Health, we know that supporting our team members means supporting their families, too," said Alexis Bloxom, chair of Best Places to Work committee and occupational therapy assistant in the rehab department at Orlando Health Melbourne Hospital. "This event gave children the chance to learn new skills, connect with community resources and have fun before heading back to school. We're grateful to our community partners for helping create such a special day for our families."
Hospital leadership said initiatives like the block party help strengthen culture and reinforce a sense of belonging.
“Our team members are at the heart of everything we do, and supporting their families is a natural extension of that commitment,” said Ron Gicca, president of Orlando Health Melbourne Hospital. “Events like this create a strong sense of community and highlight why Orlando Health continues to be a place where people feel valued, supported and inspired.”
The Back-to-School Block Party brought together departments across the hospital to share expertise in a fun, family-friendly environment, while promoting health, safety, well-being and fostering community connections for the upcoming school year.
