Specialty Urologic Care for Your Child
At Orlando Health Children's Arnold Palmer Hospital Urology Center, we offer specialized clinics for a variety of urologic conditions. As with all of our urology services, these clinics provide expert multi-specialty care tailored just for your child.
Multidisciplinary consultation with a maternal fetal medicine physician and urologic assessment in one appointment to evaluate conditions affecting your unborn baby. The team will establish a personalized plan for care before and after delivery.
Minimally invasive surgery only requires small incisions. This has big benefits for your child. Smaller incisions can reduce scarring, promote healing and speed the recovery process. Our minimally invasive procedures include robotic surgery, as well as laparoscopic surgery. These advanced techniques can treat pediatric urology conditions, such as an undescended testicle, ureteropelvic junction obstruction, vesicoureteral reflux and complex kidney stone disease.
Multispecialty medical and surgical management of kidney stones with advanced noninvasive and minimally invasive techniques of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy and endourologic techniques to break kidney stones. Once the stones are removed, medical kidney specialists (nephrologists) will work with you and your child to create a treatment plan for ongoing nutritional care and prevention of kidney stones.
Bladder control issues —incontinence and daytime or nighttime wetting — are common but can be embarrassing for a child. If your child has a bladder control issue, our team can evaluate their bladder function in a pediatric sensitive environment. Pediatric urologists use video game therapy to engage your child in urotherapy, which combines medical, behavioral and biofeedback therapies to teach kids about bladder function and how to properly use the muscles that control urination.
Children with spina bifida, myelomeningocele or other spinal cord anomalies require a multispecialty team approach. Through the Spina Bifida Clinic at Orlando Health Children's Arnold Palmer Hospital, your child has a team of nurse managers, social workers, occupational therapists and medical/surgical specialists to manage all their medical needs — all in one place. Your child's team may include urologists, orthopedists, nephrologists, gastroenterologists, neurosurgeons, nurse managers, and physical, occupational and rehabilitation therapists.
Sexual differentiation issues are complex, often requiring advanced medical, psychosocial and surgical solutions. We offer treatment for children with hypospadias (the opening of the urethra is on the underside of the penis), ambiguous genitalia and other disorders of sexual differentiation in girls and boys. We will treat your child in a sensitive and compassionate team environment, coordinating with specialists in endocrinology (hormones and growth) and behavioral health, along with our pediatric urology specialists.
