Using Cardiac Imaging to Diagnose Cardiac Disease

Advanced cardiac imaging is a specialty of cardiology. Using the latest technology, we can accurately detect cardiovascular diseases by viewing the heart and surrounding structures.

Cardiac diagnostic tests we perform include:

• 2D echocardiography and Doppler. Used to see the motion of heart structures and the flow of the blood through the heart.

• 3D echocardiography. Shows three-dimensional views of the heart in greater detail than 2D echocardiography.

• Cardiac strain imaging. Detects deformations and structural heart issues.

• CT scan. Shows how your heart valves and muscles function, the size of your heart's four chambers and the structures outside the heart (veins, coronary arteries, aorta and aortic arch).

• CT scan calcium score. Detects calcium build-up in the heart’s arteries.

• Intravascular ultrasound. Shows the inside of blood vessels to check blood flow.

• MRI. Shows details of structures within and around the heart, analyzes heart muscle composition, detects evidence of inflammation and scars.

• PET scan. Shows heart damage or low blood flow in the heart.

• Pyrophosphate scan (PYP). Detects cardiac amyloidosis, a rare disease that causes protein build-up in the heart muscle.

• Stress perfusion MRI (SPECT). Shows what blood flow in the heart would look like during exercise by mimicking the stress of physical activity on your heart.

• Transesophageal echocardiography. Takes ultrasound pictures of your heart by passing a thin tube down your throat.
