Derek Szafranski

Assistant Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital

Derek Szafranski is assistant vice president and chief operating officer of Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital, overseeing hospital operations and guiding the development of high quality, cost effective services while ensuring the needs of patients, physicians and team members are consistently met.

Derek’s background includes serving as interim chief executive officer of the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System in Florida, where he led major operational, financial and strategic initiatives. He also held several senior leadership roles within the Orlando VA Healthcare System in Florida, including interim deputy CEO and chief operating officer. Earlier in his career, Derek served in leadership positions at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Healthcare System in Charleston, South Carolina.

Derek earned a doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Houston in Texas and an MBA in healthcare management from West Texas A&M University in Canyon. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
