Plastic Surgery Trends: Thin Is In – Again

October 13, 2025

After a decade in which cosmetic surgery procedures often focused on creating more curves, there has been a shift back toward thinness.

This probably isn’t surprising for anyone following recent health and social media trends. First, popular GLP-1 weight-loss drugs are fueling a significant decrease in the nation’s collective waistline. An estimated 20 percent of GLP-1 patients have turned to plastic surgeons for body contouring procedures to go along with their weight loss.

Perhaps more important has been a shift among popular social media influencers like the Kardashian family, whose members have been trending skinnier. Social media influencers are also being more open about their plastic surgeries – down to letting followers know exactly what they’ve had done, including specific implant sizes and shapes. This has helped normalize these procedures.

In the past year, the most popular plastic surgery procedures have included liposuction, tummy tucks and breast lifts, according to an annual survey by the American Society of Plastic surgeons. Here’s how these procedures and others are playing a role in the thin trend.

  • Liposuction: This has long been one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures. Liposuction can remove troublesome or stubborn fat from many areas of your body, including love handles, buttocks, waist and the face or neck. In the procedure, your surgeon uses a suction device that removes fat from targeted areas. It can offer a shortcut to a thinner appearance, with immediate gratification. However, it is important to know that unless you change your diet and lifestyle, that extra weight will slowly return, though likely in a different area of your body.
  • Breast reduction/breast lifts: Breast augmentation via implants remains a popular procedure. But there is also growing interest in reducing and reshaping the breasts, by way of a breast lift, in which the surgeon removes excess or stretched skin. The procedure is often sought by women who aren’t interested in larger breasts but would prefer more youthful-appearing breasts.
  • Tummy tuck: The procedure, also known as abdominoplasty, removes extra fat and skin, while tightening muscles in the abdominal wall. The procedure has long been popular with women after pregnancy. But now, it is also drawing the attention of rising numbers of women who have lost weight through weight loss drugs.
  • Injectables: These minimally invasive procedures have grown in popularity as an affordable way to achieve noticeable – though more subtle – changes. More people are choosing these procedures over more complex surgeries, including face lifts. Injectables include various treatments that can smooth facial wrinkles and lines and restore volume lost to aging.

What’s Right for You?

The ongoing reversal of the curvy era demonstrates how trends can change. Larger breasts and butts have given way to more streamlined bodies. But what’s right for you?

If you feel like It’s time for a change, take some time to research your options and what you want. Then talk with a plastic surgeon to learn more about how your body type and overall health fits with your goals. Then get a second opinion to be certain you are making an educated choice and considering all of your options.

Make sure you are collaborating with a board-certified plastic surgeon. There are many healthcare providers who do plastic surgery. But often, they lack the extensive training needed to help you with such an important part of your life.

And too many people shop for bargains – including taking trips to other countries – for their surgeries. Unfortunately, the cheapest plastic surgeries don’t come with the best care.
