On August 29, Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute opened the only orthopedic-specific specialty hospital in the Southeast. It is part of a 375,000-square-foot complex in downtown Orlando devoted to all aspects of orthopedic and spine care, from prevention and diagnostics to therapeutic and surgical treatment options. Features of the orthopedic complex include:
- 75 private inpatient rooms with expanded digital technologies
- 10 inpatient operating suites, 4 virtually connected for international surgical training
- Access to innovative minimally invasive, robotic and navigation-assisted total joint replacement, sports medicine and spine surgery
- Conference space and 116-seat auditorium for hosting educational symposiums
- A research and innovation center with a 10-station bio skills lab and a 3D printer
- Imaging services with augmented reality for patient comfort
- An ambulatory surgical center with 12 operating suites
- A 63-exam-room clinic for comprehensive orthopedic care
- Physical therapy space with sports simulators and athletic playing surfaces
“There's not another facility like this in the Southeast,” says George Haidukewych, MD, director of orthopedic trauma, chief of complex joint replacement and academic chairman of orthopedic faculty practice at Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute.
A multidisciplinary team of 50-plus orthopedic physicians provide comprehensive care for over 250,000 patients annually. “The great thing about this facility is that from the moment a patient comes in the door, every person they interact with is an expert in their area of orthopedic care — everyone,” says Michael Jablonski, MD, physician president of Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute. “And every facet of medical care that is involved in orthopedics is under one roof.”
In addition to patient-focused care, the new facility is designed as a resource for referring orthopedic surgeons in need of a tertiary center of excellence for complex procedures, infections, failed fixation surgery and other complications.
“This expansion enables us to continue to revolutionize orthopedic care,” says Dr. Haidukewych. “Our specialists are skilled in the most leading-edge technologies and involved in advanced clinical research, development and training.”
One of the nation’s top training programs for orthopedic physicians, Orlando Health’s orthopedic residency is highly ranked by the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
