About Orlando Health Cancer Institute
Orlando Health Cancer Institute has been providing exceptional and compassionate care in Central Florida for more than 40 years, led by the best cancer doctors in our state-of-the-art facilities.
When you come to us for your care, you are in good hands. Your team will be led by doctors, advanced practice providers, nurses and other experts who have special training to create the best possible treatment plan for you.
We understand the importance of being close to home, family and friends during cancer treatment. That's why we offer high-quality care throughout Central Florida.
Our tertiary center is the Charles Lewis Pavilion, a 10-story, 220,000-square-foot facility with 90 private inpatient beds dedicated to our oncology units. The multidisciplinary cancer facility contains the services needed for your care – from diagnosis through all phases of treatment and follow-up. We also provide care at more than 20 locations across Central Florida as we continue an expansion that will eventually reach from coast to coast.
Our team includes more than 100 sub-specialized surgical oncologists, hematologists, medical and radiation oncologists and radiologists. We also have more than 75 advanced practice providers and a large supporting team of pathologists, nurses, therapists and researchers.
Since our beginning in 1983 as the ORMC Center for Cancer Treatment, we’ve treated more than 100,000 patients a year. We measure our success one patient at a time. When you choose Orlando Health Cancer Institute, you can be sure you are getting the most innovative and advanced treatments and technologies.
In 2016, the institute opened the $25 million Marjorie and Leonard Williams Center for Proton Therapy the only one of its kind in Central Florida and one of five in the state. It allows the targeting of tumors with higher doses of radiation, while significantly reducing damage to healthy tissue.
Since then, our radiation therapy program has continued to evolve. We were the first in Central Florida to add an MRIdian® machine, which uses advanced MRI imaging for precise treatment of cancer tumors. We offer SBRT, a cancer treatment that can be administered in just five sessions. And last year, we led the way once again, adding Ethos™ Adaptive Radiation, which harnesses the power of AI to help our doctors quickly customize treatment plans to target tumors and minimize damage to surrounding tissue.
Doctors at Orlando Health Cancer Institute also participate in numerous research studies and clinical trials, allowing us to bring leading-edge treatment options to our patients. Among these recent advances is the groundbreaking Tumor-Infiltrating Lymphocytes (TIL) Treatment. Our team helped pioneer this protocol, which treats aggressive, late-stage melanoma and other advanced cancers.
Our surgical advances are also changing the way some cancers are treated, offering new diagnostic tools, higher precision and better outcomes for our patients. Among them:
- Our surgeons are using robotic assistance to enhance the effectiveness of the Whipple procedure used to remove pancreatic cancer tumors.
- Advances in microsurgery are enabling our reconstructive surgeons to return nipple sensation after a mastectomy for breast cancer.
- Artificial intelligence is helping our thoracic surgeons detect lung cancer lesions that previously would have been inaccessible.
- New fertility-sparing approaches, using robotic assistance, are available for surgeries to treat gynecologic cancers, with decreased occurrences of lymphedema.
The institute has a new Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program using autologous and allogeneic BMT to treat adult blood cancers, including leukemia, lymphoma and multiple myeloma. The program targets high-risk patients, including those with comorbidities such as heart disease or uncontrolled cancer.
The program has been recognized, for two consecutive years, as one of the nation’s top 12 performing centers by the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research. No other adult bone marrow transplant center in Florida has received this distinction, earned with CAR-T transplant patient survival outcomes that beat predicted benchmarks by 20 percent. The program has also earned accreditation from the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT), which sets the global standard for the highest quality of patient care in cellular therapy.
Also at the institute is the Cancer Genetics and High-Risk Care Center – the only one of its kind in Central Florida – focusing on patients identified as high risk for cancers by personal history, family history or genetic testing. Patients work closely with an oncologist and genetic counselor to build a roadmap for the future, including surveillance, risk-reduction plan and lifestyle changes.
At the Orlando Health Cancer Institute, our care approach goes beyond clinical treatments. We believe it is critical to care for you, as a person, and support you throughout your medical treatment. We do this by offering a range of complementary therapies, including yoga, meditation, music therapy and creative arts. Among our unique offerings is the Arts in Medicine program, which allows infusion therapy patients to take part in creative arts while receiving treatment. And at our main location, we have a labyrinth modeled after the one at Chartres Cathedral in France, use for walking meditation and calming exercise.
No matter what cancer diagnosis you face, Orlando Health Cancer Institute will give you patient specific, high-quality treatment, including psychosocial support with clinical expertise guiding all decisions.
Our Locations
We also have treatment locations in Ocoee, Clermont and Lake Mary, as well as our Dr. Phillips location in Orlando, along with more than 10 practice locations to serve our patients from all over the state.
Our first and largest campus is our state-of-the-art Charles Lewis Pavilion. The 10-story building is 220,000 square feet. The Charles Lewis Pavilion offers all the services and support you need from diagnosis through treatment and beyond.
