Best Hospitals for Cancer

Orlando Health Cancer Institute ranked among the top 100 in the 2023-2024 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals for Cancer list, also earning high performing ratings in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD); colon cancer surgery; diabetes; leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma; and lung cancer surgery, which indicates being significantly better than the national average in a particular procedure or condition. Overall cancer rankings are based on analysis of various data, including patient outcomes, volume of high-risk patients, patient experience, nurse staffing and advanced clinical technologies.

American College of Surgeons (ACS) Commission on Cancer Accreditation

The Commission on Cancer (CoC) is an association of professional organizations that sets standards of care with the goal of improving outcomes and quality of life for cancer patients.

Our cancer program has been awarded accreditation continuously since 1984 for our commitment to providing comprehensive, high-quality and multidisciplinary patient-centered care. Accreditation is based on a survey and on-site visit every three years; As part of our accreditation, we annually engage in multiple quality studies and quality improvements throughout the institute and in all aspects of cancer care.

Becker's Hospital Review

Orlando Health Cancer Institute was named in the Becker's Hospital Review “60 Hospitals and Health Systems with Great Oncology Programs” 2023 list. The hospitals and health systems featured on this list have earned recognition nationally as top cancer care providers and many are on the leading edge of novel therapies and research to improve outcomes and access to care.

Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy Accreditation

Our Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program has earned accreditation from the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT), which sets the global standard for the highest quality of patient care in cellular therapy. Voluntary accreditation is earned through a rigorous process of meeting the most comprehensive standards in the field, and earning FACT accreditation is the mark of excellence for programs providing cellular therapy, including bone marrow transplant.

Breast Care Center Accreditation

Our Breast Care Center has been accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Care Centers (NAPBC), administered by American College of Surgeons, since 2013 and receiving full reaccreditation in 2022. This accreditation requires demonstrated compliance with breast-cancer-specific quality, outcomes, clinical standards and quality improvement projects.

In addition, we are a designated American College of Radiology (ACR) Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by achieving accreditation in all breast imaging modalities, and Orlando Health is a 2023 Women’s Choice Award for Best Hospitals™ awardee for Comprehensive Breast Centers and Best Mammogram Imaging Centers, ranking in the top 3% and 5% of hospitals in the nation, respectively.

Medical Oncology Certification

The Orlando Health Cancer Institute is certified by the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI®) Certification Program, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Association for Clinical Oncology (the Association) and affiliate of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), This program recognizes medical oncology and hematology/oncology practices that are committed to delivering the highest quality of cancer care. The Certification Program evaluates performance in areas that affect patient care and safety, providing a three-year certification. First certified in 2013, we received recertification in 2022.

Radiation Oncology Accreditation

Our Center for Advanced Radiation Therapy is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) for Radiation Oncology. Our physicians are committed to ensuring the quality of the therapy we deliver. Moreover, every patient who is treated has their treatment plan peer reviewed by our physicians in a daily quality assurance meeting.

Rectal Cancer Care Accreditation

Orlando Health Cancer Institute earned a three-year accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC) in 2022. The NAPRC is part of a collaboration between The OSTRiCh Consortium (Optimizing the Surgical Treatment of Rectal Cancer) and the Commission on Cancer (CoC), a quality program of the American College of Surgeons. Accredited programs are evaluated against comprehensive standards to demonstrate compliance and commitment to providing high-quality rectal cancer care.

Women’s Choice Awards

For a decade, the Women's Choice Award has identified the best healthcare facilities, based on objective criteria and rated by women across the nation. Among its seven 2023 Women’s Choice Award for Best Hospitals™, Orlando Health received awards in Cancer Care, Comprehensive Breast Centers and Best Mammogram Imaging Centers, ranking in the top 2%, 3% and 5% of hospitals, respectively.
