Robotic Surgery Specialties and Epicenters

When choosing a robotic surgery provider, it’s important to know that the surgeon has proven skills and experience in operating the da Vinci Surgical System. One strong indicator that a hospital has surgeons with advanced skills in robotic surgery is if the facility has been designated an “epicenter” by da Vinci technology representative Intuitive Surgical.

Orlando Health has one of the largest group of da Vinci epicenters and experts in robotic surgery in the United States. More than 3,000 robotic procedures are performed here annually with eight advanced surgical robots offering the latest technology.

Our robotic surgery centers were selected to be epicenters because of our excellent patient outcomes, superb safety record and our surgeons’ extensive experience performing a large number of successful robotic surgeries.

To be designated as an epicenter means that surgeons within a specific medical specialty serve as robotic surgery trainers and mentors to other doctors seeking to learn robotic surgery. Orlando Health surgeons have trained other surgeons who come here from across the country and around the world. The teaching process includes sharing best practices and monitoring robotic surgery cases in the operating room much like a pilot trains a flight student. Epicenters are evaluated annually on a number of criteria to ensure that they are providing a quality educational experience.
