Back

The expert staff at South Seminole Hospital uses a variety of repair procedures to mend broken bones (fractures). Fractures occur in several ways and sometimes require surgery called O-R-I-F, or open reduction, internal fixation. During this surgery, broken bone pieces are put back where they belong using a variety of methods including metal pins, screws, rods or plates. These devices hold the pieces of bone together while they heal. Depending on the nature of the injury, devices are removed at a later date or remain in place permanently.

Thomas Herzog, MD, is a specialist in orthopedic surgery and is on staff at South Seminole Hospital. He is well versed in the O-R-I-F surgical procedure as well as other orthopedic procedures and is board certified as an orthopedic surgeon.
