James F. Brown, MD, FACEP

As chief medical officer of Orlando Health – Health Central Hospital and Orlando Health Horizon West Hospital, Dr. James Brown ensures the placement of evidence-based practice standards and protocols while providing an operational focus to deliver the highest quality and efficiency of patient care. As a physician leader, James is committed to promoting a culture of safety, data-driven process improvement and interdisciplinary teamwork.
Previously, James served as chief quality officer (CQO) for the two hospitals, where he participated in the development of quality strategic plans and served as the CQO leader of the corporate readmissions reduction steering committee. Since joining Orlando Health, James also has held positions as the department chair of emergency medicine and as the emergency department quality officer at Orlando Health – Health Central. Additionally, he has participated on several executive committees, including credentials, peer review and mortality. He also serves as an assistant professor of emergency medicine at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine.
After receiving a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, James earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans and completed a residency in emergency medicine at Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center. He also has earned a master’s in healthcare management from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
The author of numerous articles and a frequent national and international lecturer, James is a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians (FACEP) and a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). An accomplished classical pianist, he also serves on the board of directors for the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra.
