Orlando Health Sebastian River Hospital Expands Access to Advanced Robotic Surgery in Northern Indian River County
Sebastian, Fl (July 13, 2026) — Orlando Health Sebastian River Hospital has expanded access to general and robotic-assisted surgery for residents in northern Indian River County with the addition of Joseph Bedway, M.D., an experienced general surgeon who has served patients on Florida's Space Coast for almost 15 years.
Board-certified in general surgery, Dr. Bedway joins Orlando Health from Health First Cape Canaveral Hospital, where he practiced since 2014. Dr. Bedway completed his surgical residency at Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he served as administrative chief resident and resident instructor of surgery for the University of Central Florida College of Medicine. He earned his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia and is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. He specializes in general surgery and minimally invasive robotic-assisted procedures using the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System.
"I am excited to serve the residents of Indian River County and Southern Brevard County,” said Dr. Bedway. ‘Robotic-assisted surgery allows us to perform many procedures through smaller incisions, which can help reduce pain, shorten hospital stays and allow them to get back to their normal lives quicker."
Dr. Bedway performs a broad range of general surgical procedures and has extensive experience with minimally invasive and robotic techniques designed to improve patient outcomes and recovery times. Patients in northern Indian River County now have local access to comprehensive surgical care through Dr. Bedway, including treatment for:
Hernias
Gallbladder disease
Robotic abdominal procedures
Thyroid disease
Colon conditions including hemorrhoid disease in office
Appendicitis
Comprehensive breast care
Skin lesion biopsy and skin cancer removal
The addition of Dr. Bedway strengthens Orlando Health's surgical services across Indian River and Southern Brevard Counties. Dr. Theodore Perry, M.D., will continue providing general surgery services for patients in the Vero Beach area and perform surgeries at Orlando Health Sebastian River Hospital.
"Ensuring residents have access to exceptional surgical care close to home remains a top priority," said Dan Bowen, president of Orlando Health Sebastian River Hospital. "Dr. Bedway brings extensive clinical experience, leadership expertise and advanced robotic surgery capabilities that will enhance the care we provide. We are excited to welcome him to our medical staff."
