Treatment Philosophy at the Orlando Health Cancer Institute

At the Orlando Health Cancer Institute, we use a specialized, multidisciplinary approach to care. This means you can expect personalized attention and a treatment team designed for your individual diagnosis and medical needs.

You’ll receive expertise from an entire team working together, including:

  • Medical, radiation and surgical oncologists
  • Pathologists
  • Radiologists
  • Nuclear medicine doctors
  • Physician specialists
  • Advanced practice nurses
  • Social workers
  • Counselors
  • Dietitians
  • Plastic surgeons
  • Pharmacists

Multidisciplinary Approach

Our multidisciplinary cancer care offers the best possible opportunity for an accurate diagnosis and the most effective treatments available. Because we’re all part of the Orlando Health system, our experts interact and work together every day to create the best possible plan of care for you.

Your medical team includes at least a physician, nurse practitioner, social worker and a dietitian. Your physician makes the diagnosis based on your individual needs, suggests the treatment strategy and supervises all aspects of your care. Then, we work together with a team to carry out the treatment plan and manage your care well after treatment.

A Brighter Tomorrow

Cancer researchers are making great strides toward understanding this disease. Promising new treatments are underway.

Because of our involvement in research and clinical trials, we are one of the few cancer programs in the country to provide several of the newest anti-cancer agents, still under investigation, to patients in Florida.

Treating the Whole Person

We recognize there is more to cancer care than an expert team of medical professionals, advanced technology and access to research. That’s why we address the whole body, mind and spirit.

We offer many services and classes, including:

  • Meditation and guided imagery for pain management
  • Art classes and creative therapies
  • Nutritional counseling
  • Palliative and supportive care
  • Spiritual care and grief counseling
  • Support groups
  • Acupuncture
  • Oncology massage therapy and facials
  • Tai chi, qi gong and yoga
  • Music therapy
  • Hypnotherapy

Our wellness programs create a bridge between standard medical care and spiritual healing through complementary and integrative medicine. The variety of research-supported, complementary techniques can help you manage cancer symptoms, relieve stress and improve mental health. You can try any approaches that appeal to you and help improve your well-being.
