Orlando Health Graduate Medical Education Diversity Council Representative Roles/Responsibilities

  1. Promote Inclusion
    • Advocate for an inclusive and equitable environment within your program and work towards creating a sense of belonging for individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  2. Educate and Raise Awareness
    • Attend quarterly GME Diversity Council meetings.
    • Collaborate with GME Diversity Council leadership to raise awareness about diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) topics and to develop and implement DEI programming.
  3. Recruitment
    • Understand the importance of recruiting residents/fellows with diverse backgrounds, especially those who are underrepresented in medicine.
    • Support recruiting efforts by the GME Diversity Council leadership and your respective programs to increase the matriculation of residents/fellows that are underrepresented in medicine.
  4. Community and Advocacy
    • Serve as a voice for residents’ concerns and ideas related to diversity and inclusion.
    • Communicate regularly with residents, faculty, and program leadership to provide updates and promote initiatives hosted by the GME Diversity Council.
    • Regularly update GME Diversity Council leadership on resident/fellow needs.
  5. Ongoing Learning and Self Reflection
    • Continuously educate oneself about diversity issues, cultural humility, and social justice.
    • Engage in self-reflection to identify personal biases and work towards being an ally and advocate for marginalized communities.
    • Stay informed about current research and best practices in DEI.
