Dr. Emanuel "Mike" Vlastos is a board-certified maternal-fetal medicine physician at Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Fetal Care Center. He diagnoses and treats fetal anomalies, identifies birth defects and performs fetal procedures and surgeries, often before the baby is born. With more than 20 years of experience, Dr. Vlastos serves as director of the Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital Fetal Care Center, part of the Center for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, and director of Advanced Fetal Services at Orlando Health. He has expertise in prenatal treatment for spina bifida (myelomeningocele), twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, bladder outlet obstructions and congenital diaphragmatic hernia.
He travels internationally to lecture and is a noted researcher whose work has appeared in peer-reviewed journals. As a consultant, Dr. Vlastos has helped establish fetal myelomeningocele repair programs in St Louis; Chicago; Kansas City; Buenos Aires, Argentina; and Heidelberg, Germany.
Dr. Vlastos is a member of the North American Fetal Treatment Network and the National Consortium for Prenatal Repair of Fetal Myelomeningocele. He also is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG) and the American Academy of Family Physicians (FAAFP). He has been recognized in the Best Doctors in America: Midwest Edition several times.
