Clerkship Rotation

Our visiting medical student rotation welcomes applicants from across the country, as well as international students, to participate as rotators. The most popular months for visiting rotators are August through December.

Structure

Our clerkship experience features exposure to our General and Trauma Orthopedic Team, Hand and Upper Extremity, Sports Medicine and Pediatric Orthopedic Services. Most of your time will be spent at our Level One Trauma Center at Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center but will also include some time at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital, a Level One pediatric trauma center. The Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital is on the same campus as ORMC and requires no additional traveling.

Didactic Curriculum

Visiting medical students will attend the daily resident morning conferences Monday – Thursday from 6:30am - 7:30am and Friday 6:30am - 8:30am. Journal Club is held on the 2nd Tuesday each month at 5:30pm in the Orthopedic Library. A Thursday afternoon Trauma lecture is held at 4:00pm and is presented by Dr. Kareem Shaath.

Applying and Block Dates

Acceptance for a student externship is exclusively via a VSAS application process. Acceptance for a student externship in Orthopedic Surgery does not guarantee that you will be granted an interview for the Orthopedic residency training program. For osteopathic medical students, please note that we require USMLE scores. The rotation is 4 weeks in length. We recognize that many medical schools and residency programs have different rotation start dates. We will do our best to accommodate your schedule. For questions or more information regarding medical student rotations in Orthopedic surgery or to set up a rotation, please email us or call:
