Pulmonary Wellness is a proven and important part of comprehensive care for people with chronic lung disease.

The Pulmonary Wellness Program located at the Orlando Health Medical Pavilion, across the street from Lucerne Pavilion, is a complete program of pulmonary rehabilitation designed to reduce the frequency and length of hospitalizations for people with chronic pulmonary disease. The program includes treating the following conditions:

Obstructive Pulmonary Disease:

  • COPD
  • Asthma
  • Asthmatic bronchitis
  • Chronic bronchitis
  • Emphysema
  • Bronchiectasis
  • Cystic Fibrosis

Restrictive Pulmonary Disease:

  • Interstitial fibrosis
  • Rheumatoid pulmonary disease
  • Collagen vascular disorders
  • Pneumoconioses
  • Sarcoidosis
  • Kyphoscoliosis
  • Severe obesity
  • Poliomyelitis

Other Conditions:

  • Pulmonary vascular disease
  • Lung resection
  • Occupational or environmental lung diseases
  • Lung reduction surgery

The Pulmonary Wellness Program consists of:

  • Lung anatomy and physiology
  • Lung disease pathophysiology
  • Breathing retraining
  • Medications
  • Respiratory treatments and equipment
  • General nutrition
  • Energy conservation
  • Physical reconditioning
  • Relaxation
  • Diet and nutrition
  • Intimacy
  • Health management
  • Coping skills

Pulmonary Maintenance Program:

  • Physical maintenance and exercise therapy
  • Individual exercise program designed to increase stamina and strength
  • Sessions are medically supervised with oxygen available if needed
  • State-of-the-art testing and exercise equipment includes cardiopulmonary exercise stress testing, treadmills, exercise bicycles and tools for upper body strengthening
  • Sessions are held Tuesdays and Thursdays

Each phase of the Pulmonary Wellness Program requires a physician's prescription/order.

  • Improve the quality of your life
  • Increase your physical endurance
  • Teach skills to better cope with and control shortness of breath
  • Educate you and your family about your pulmonary condition
